A lot of growers will have done theirs already, for the August shows.
All mine are aimed for the Harrogate Show this year in mid September, followed by the Leeds Paxton show, those two are some of the larger shows for a dahlia grower, so any ready for earlier smaller shows this year will be a bonus.

Should have waited tel, with this wind it would have done it for you !!
Glad I staked all mine up last weekend or the Mrs and the dog would have suffered.
This weekend is more disbudding and everyone's favourate job, vaselining the stems, 'NOT'.
My plot has its fare share of earwigs, so this is a must. Nout worse than nurturing a great bloom!! then you go to cut it just before a show only to find the buggers have chomped on the petals.
This year I smeared the main stem when i planted out and my word it has helped no end. This does not stop them climbing the canes to get onto the plant, so they need to be done too.
Cant use boric acid bait, cause of the grandnipper, plus the dog. Not worried about next doors cat, ruddy pain with cat crap etc.
Some growers sterilize the soil which kills all the weeds and earwig nests, not sure if i could get away with this as I have trees and other conifers nearby ?

The dahlia trials that are held at Golden Acre Park, Leeds.
27 raisers have sent 59 cultivars to be assessed this year, i shall be making the short journey later in the year, to do my own assessment of these dahlias.

That is about the maximum the trial ground will hold, if they want to give the dahlias the space they need to grow to their potential.

How is your Dahlia Windmill doing Tel? I’m very disappointed with mine, it’s much shorter than it is supposed to be so is quite lost behind other plants. The only similarity to the photo on the packet is the colour.
This is how it should look.
And this is how mine looks. I bought three plants and they are all the same.

My windmill has not flowered yet, a few buds on them, but i agree with you i thought it would have been taller.
Mine are more like bedding dahlias that would be OK at the front of the border.
I am fortunate in one way they are in pots so cannot hide themselves behind taller plants, i will post a pic when they flower, but looking at yours i think we have been had.
I can see mine finding a new home on the compost heap at the end of the season.

I've not had much luck with Taylors dahlias this year, this is the second one that is wrong. Luckily the other is in a pot so it didn't upset a bed. I'll have to have a look for another one to go in the centre of the bed for next year.

Halls of Heddon stocked it in their catalogue this season but they will not take any orders until about Nov.
I will ask the dahlia men if they have any stock when i meet up in Sept, if so i am sure they will let me have a tuber or cuttings.

I am considering writing to them, the flowers I don’t dislike but the height was important.
The collarette was a little treat to me because it was so pretty, the red and white (the one I bought) was lovely but mine turned out to be red and yellow, which I don’t like.
It’s not so much the money as the disappointment.
