Dug over the area that had lettuce in it and replanted with some rooted strawberry runners.

Lots of fruit next year then Mark. I hope so Dai. The strawberries were one of the few crops not to be bothered with my pet mole tunnelling underneath them. On the plot today plans went a bit astray due to the weather. Started off okay as I managed to get three bags of well-rotted manure to continue preparations for next year. Just finished emptying the last bag when there was a rumble of thunder and the start of heavy rain. Time for a sharp exit! After several aborted attempts to get back to the plot (thunder and heavy rain twice), I finally managed to get the manure spread this evening. Cut a couple of dahlias for the house and checked on my show peas and runner beans (Welsh Branch Championships on 23/24 August). Going to be a bit tight on whether there will be a cut for it.

Gladiator is a very early maturing and uniform Parsnip with a very nice flavour. Also, they are extremely good on the showbench.

Built a raised bed on plot 1. Good size to start - 18in high by 8ft long by 4ft wide. Got a liner to go in and then I get to fill it with soil.

Good size Mark. What you planting it up with? At the moment the plan is for 'Evening Star' celery (for exhibition) and possibly some salad greens as the bed is partially shaded.

My old allotment site held a open day today, the local paper reporter was there, I got roped in to having my pic taken with one of the plot holders daughter, she would be about 3 years old. He told me they want to do a article about the old and young on the allotments. So we had a pic taken with the dahlia's.

First time I tried parsnips I used Sutton's Tender & True which also gave me red cards but when gladiator came along that was it. Also tried javelin but found it more on the skinny side. Haven't done any showing since moving to Wales.
