Thank you both, but I don't really like cider. You could pass me a sauvignon blanc though thanks. Sorry Cherry but you can`t make sauvignon blanc from apples. So it`s cider or nothing.

Continued sieving soil and filling the raised bed for celery. Adding spent plants (peas) and well rotted horse manure in layers. Getting a lot of bindweed and mare's tail root at the moment, hence the sieving of soil.

The good news Mark, is, you can eradicate Bindweed. The bad news is, you will never be shot of Mares Tail. You just need to get it out as and when it comes through. You could try using Glyphosate ( which is what I am going to do on my plot ) but you must spray the plant before the waxy fronds open.

Just topped off one of the compost bins and picked a load of runner beans, onions and green tomatoes.

Nearly finished filling the celery bed with soil. Just need to cap it with a few inches of manure then cover with black plastic to stop the local cats from using it as a toilet, grrr!

Dug out all the old strawberry plants and added these to the compost heap. Weeded through the dahlias and chrysanths on one plot and noticed a couple of plants of pompon dahlias not looking healthy so have dug those out and will send for recycling. Finished the day by tying labels to those chrysanths and dahlias that will be kept for next season.

Spent over 3 hours weeding what will become the first part of the terracing of the plot. There will be three 27ft x 9ft "terraces". After weeding the first part ( 4 bin bags full )it took only 20 minutes to lightly fork it over. Then a treated the surface with calcified seaweed. Another plot holder has surplus topsoil he wants rid of, so he is dumping it on my plot tomorrow.

Emptied one of the compost bins and spread the contents on the plot along with three large bags of well-rotted horse manure. Another trip to the stables for some fresh bedding (wood shavings) to refill the empty compost bin. Got three bags of this which had already started to heat up, hope it doesn't melt the bin, lol.
After a cup of tea and some toast (at home) it was back to the plot to continue weeding and general autumn preparations, can't really crack on until the dahlias and chrysanths are out of the way.

Our local allotment "group" has decreed, that all "permanent" structures must have planning permission. They are classing, sheds, greenhouse, small poly tunnels and even COMPOST BINS as permanent structures. Dozy sods.

Went up the plot this afternoon to get my garden fork and ended up ripping out a load of weeds, topping up a compost bin and repairing my spade. Also took away two binbags of rubbish left by the previous tenant. I did remember to get my fork however.
