I haven't seen our hedgies either for about a week lesley , it might just be that they're all hiding because of the fireworks or have started slowing down ready to hibernate & have had a better offer than our hedgehog house! I haven't seen mine for a few days either SueA, I'm continuing to put out a small amount of food just in case one of them turns up. If the food doesn't get eaten by the hedgehogs the magpies come along in the morning and take it

The magpies do that here too peony , the only trouble is that it's rained so much recently that I've had to scrape soggy leftover hedgehog biscuits off the grass as they were going mouldy!

Not a pleasant job SueA One of ours turned up again last night, so I think you were right, the fireworks had probably scared him.

Have you considered advertising in the HedgeHog Times ?

My hedgehogs haven't hibernated yet, one, sometimes two, turn up for their food each evening, I think they are making the most of the wet, mild nights and plentiful supply of worms, slugs and snails. Here in Hertfordshire we've yet to have a ground frost, just one light air frost so far

I'm wondering if the ones around here are hibernating yet as well then peony ? I've not seen any for weeks but I may just be looking at the wrong time. I still put some food out at night & some of it gets eaten but it might just be the birds. It's been quite warm here so where you are probably seems like the tropics to the hedgehogs!

Not sure if our hedgehog hotel is being used or not. I don't want to disturb it in case. Should have stuck a 'To Let' sign on the front.

How can I tell if I have a hedgehog please? I would love to encourage one but probably the neighbours fencing has stopped any chance, but advice would be great folks- thanks

You might have hedgehogs visiting Cat & not know it, they only need a tiny gap to get in through about 4 or 5 inches wide, if you don't have any gaps under gates etc. you can dig a little tunnel under a fence. You might spot one if you go out in the garden just after dark in the summer or sometimes you might find hedgehog poo in the garden, it looks a bit like a black slug in shape & size. You can put food out to encourage them, either special hedgehog food, mealworms etc. or meat based cat or dog food & a shallow bowl of water. The only trouble with cat/dog food is you might end up with all the local moggies coming for a meal too!

That's a good idea peony, it would take a skinny little cat to get in there & steal the food wouldn't it!

Our hedgehog appears to be back, well there was hedgehog poo on the lawn anyway so I've put the infrared camera out to see if I can confirm it.

Hope you get some good pictures SueA My hedgehog is still visiting every night for food, it doesn't seem to have hibernated at all.
