Well Peony. There you are with first hand knowledge. Can't you get rid of them? I love the under-rated V. tinus too and have two types of these.

Well Peony. There you are with first hand knowledge. Can't you get rid of them? I love the under-rated V. tinus too and have two types of these. I have still got a standard V.tinus, which I spray with Provado Ultimate Bug Killer (this is what the RHS suggested) but it doesn't seem to be completely effective and there are still holes in some of the leaves Its annoying because it's such a useful shrub, especially for a shady garden like mine.

Snails are the worst - I suffer with chafer bugs, too - I think that's what they are. That's what the dreaded badgers dig up in the lawns as well as worms. Ants can be a nuisance, as can red perils, but I scan my lilies every day to get squishing. I do hope I don't get Viburnum beetles here - I have several Viburnums! I agree about hairy bittercress!

Red spider mite, slugs and snails, viburnum beetles, lily beetles and berberis sawfly - this hasn't been quite so bad the last couple of years as I have been more diligent looking out for it

This topic reads like a horror story, so many little ‘orribles’ doing their damnedest to eat, nibble or destroy our plants. And as if that’s not enough, some of us have to live with Hairy Bitter cress and other invasive weeds that are too frightening to name! Yesterday I was on my hands and knees under the GH benches looking for the little blighter that’s creating havoc. Judging by this pic of one of the holes it could it be a Shrew. I’ve sown Radish, Beetroot, Spring Onion, Spinach all of which have germinated well but……..my lettuce has been both uprooted and had the top nibbled off !! The slug pellets have not been eaten and the mouse traps are still loaded. The war is not yet won
