wow hope you've got a large garden I am terrible for buying too many seeds and then ending up with loads of plants! I always think they aren't going to germinate! We have got just over 7 and a half acres though in fields but I am hoping to convert some of it into new woodland... I will do my best.

Hi there ziggy, and a warm welcome to the forum. What sort of things would you be thinking of growing in your POlytunnel ? Here are some pics of what is in there at the moment...

I have a bit of a love of trees grindle. I think I have around 200 birch seedlings at the moment growing here and there in the polytunnel... (I really didn't know they would germinate so successfully! Lol.)

I think they like fluctuating temperatures so I am going to "winter sow" them in milk cartons next week and leave them outside...

I've never tried growing them from seed, but it sounds fun I think I am currently addicted to growing trees from seed... I grow other things from seed as well, in fact I really don't like to buy plants from garden centres too often. I'm not sure what it is that makes it more enjoyable for me and I probably said this before somewhere on this forum but I think I get to know my plants better if I grow them from seed. It's much easier for me to remember what they are and what they like or dislike. Save

Many from seed I have an Acer Palmatum Atropurpureum in the front garden that has seed every year, some of these germinate in the gravel below it and I then pot them up and see which have a good leaf form, I have grown Paulownia, Catalpa and Acacia from seeds recently but I also pot up any seedlings I find in the garden many of these are Holly and Conifers, some of these I keep small like bonsai and then I visit RHS shows a couple of times a year and there is usually a company called larchfield trees who sell small Acers at a very reasonable price, some are grafted and they come in a wide variety of leaf colour and forms......I'm getting a fairly good collection of them now

Wow! Sounds like you have a lot of trees now steve. I have just found an acer palmatum atropurpureum that has germinated for me in the fridge (finally!) so I have potted it on. I hope it grows well, I do love Acers. I want to get some of the really bright red ones for our garden.
