Update on the willow cuttings... do these look like the beginnings of roots sprouting to you? I am hopeful..

I just planted some new germinators today: white fir, nordmann fir and some erman's birch. For the birch I needed a really beady eye to see them amongst the vermiculite!

More trees germinating. Today I had some apricot, some western hemlock and some more erman's birch, lacebark pine, white fir and nordmann fir and...wait for it. I spotted a germinated yew!!! I am over the moon about this given that the pre-treatment period is so long.. (60 weeks). Patience pays off. I have some new seeds to put in the fridge now - some more hazel as they did not germinate last time, some walnut, almond, a few types of acer, persian ironwood, black tupelo, sugar maple and one or two others that I can't remember off the top of my head. The tapatalk app on my phone doesn't seem to be working lately so I have resorted to going to the PC to type this.

I couldn't believe it when I spotted it SueA. It is exciting when I do my random checks and spot something... especially when it's been in the fridge for a long time.

Just reading your blog ziggy, you have been busy . What a gift to be able to grow loads of trees for future generations. I love the wildness of your land. I have been trying to do that with my tiny sidegarden but the kid around here call it a mess I love to see all those little seedlings sprouting . Are you growing anything in the polytunnel ?

Hi ladybird! I have just seen your post.. I've been so busy with all sorts and haven't really been on the site lately. Yes, the polytunnel has a variety of seedlings that I overwintered in there and I am hoping to grow some veg in there now. I currently have the following, all looking good - borage, lavender, lovage, tarragon, mint, chives, strawberries, some big agave that we inherited, silver birch, paper birch, laburnum, pin oak, cork oak, turkey oak, English oak, foxglove, goji berries, teatree, ginkgo biloba (just germinated), golden chain berry, wonderberry, blue ornamental grass of some sort, red currant (just germinated), eucalyptus, rocket and I may have forgotten some other bits and bobs. I am currently hoping to germinate some tomatoes, chillis, cucumber and runner beans too. I am actually considering starting up a side business as a tree nursery because I think I have about 400 birch!

The tree seedlings are doing well. I'll add some updates about the different things growing but here are a couple of general pics.
