Thanks ian.
I should have said the cuttings are in a heated propagator . I'll put the lid on with open vents and hopefully they'll all be ok when I get home.
Thanks again

Hi all, a quick question regarding stopping. If double stopping, how many days before the show would I have to do the first stop? Local shows in this area would be the last two Saturdays in August. If I've picked it up correctly it's approximately 60 days from stopping to flowering , is the time from first to second stop slightly shorter or also 60 days or thereabouts?
Thanks in advance
Johnjess

Where we live the weather (South of Melb Aust) has been crazy for Dahlias 2017 many did not flower at all. 2018 only a few did not flower all are dying back now but a few that did not flower have started to shoot again and its mid to late Autumn.
Oh there is 2019 to come lets see what next year.

Thanks in advance Johnjess Hi johnjess, Look at Dave Gillams videos on you tube. Part 8 deals with the issues of double stopping and growing on. I recommend looking at these videos. Good luck, Diggie.

Lovely to hear from you on here Raymond , sorry that you've been having a bad time but hopefully you'll still be able to grow some gorgeous dahlias again, lucky that your tubers got through the winter in one piece & are growing away for you.

Great to see you back on the board Raymond and hope you have a good dahlia season.
I've planted out my dahlias today, not that I have many compared to you guys. I planted 21 today,
3 Marston Suzanne, 5 Kiwi Gloria, 6 Polventon Kristobel, 2 Mary's Jomanda, 2 Hayley Jane and one each of Kilmorie, H Candy and Ryecroft Brenda T.
Just have to hope they grow now!
I hope the sun shines for everyone and you all have a great season.
Good luck!
johnjess.

Hi Raymond, good to hear your catching up after a difficult start. I'm sure when show time comes around you'll be ready.
I'll be following with interest.
A question while I'm here, I'm growing mostly miniatures this year, do they need lots of feed like the larger varieties ? I put some Q4 in the planting holes , will they need extras or should that see them through?
Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance Johnjess I feed all my dahlias the same johnjess So they all get nitrogen then balanced except for straight cactus that gets just a little comfrey from first week august i keep feeding the rest until end of september. They are hungry as lou says and to keep the size keep up the feed so say miracle grow then onto tomorite or phostrogen etc... also lots of water . Just keep an eye out for red spider mite . It is notorious in this type of weather.
