What a palaver trying to remove duckweed. Every time I scoop up a load I get at least half a dozen tadpoles as well which I have to get them back in the pond. Shame they don't eat the duckweed as that would be very useful. Will be easier when they turn into frogs and hop it. The other pond still has a blanketweed problem and also there are loads of young fish far too many for the size of the pond so if anyone wants some goldfish do pop round. Pity there's not a birth control for fish.

Sweetpea
Its also a curse in Aquariums it took me over a year to remove it from my 5ft tank.
If you can get a large Aquarium net it will slowly remove it as it multiplies extremely fast.

I've not bothered trying to remove the duckweed from our pond so far as there are loads of tadpoles in it as well. Usually the duckweed dies back a lot in the winter but as we didn't have any long very cold spells this year it's survived & flourished!

I am well aware of its speed of propagation an it really is difficult to clear, Just spent another £20.00 on some stuff to sort it out though i think it will be 20mquid lost.

let us know how it goes sweetpea I've tried a couple of things to no avail I'll post the name of it when I go down to the pond shed as I can't recall what it is called but part of the name is Resolve. Maureen seems to think it is helping to reduce the stuff although she is still fishing out loads of it.

Oops! sorry grindle I was getting my duckweed and blanketweed mixed up. (I'm getting older you know) I did try something called 'Duckweed Buster' some time back but it didn't help any.

I will admit it was in a 5ft planted fish tank. The only way was to net it out every day until there was none left. From then onwards every new plant was washed and washed until I was 110% positive it was perfectly clean of any nasties and duckweed. I bought a plant sight unseen was so bad I threw it in the bin.
Now I have a weed in the garden it multiplies faster than i can dig it out or poison it.

Hairy bittercress is one dandelions and daisies also although I do quite like daisies.

There are 3 frogs in the pond at the moment with all the tadpoles & I noticed this one yesterday popped up & wiped the duckweed from it's face as it did, I may have to scoop a bit of it out although the frogs don't seem to mind it.

Tried this stuff for all the good it did. Waste of time effort and money imo
