Interesting Louise, I can't say i've seen one though I should as I've no light pollution. The only time I saw anything like it was years ago i found a green glow in the gravel. I picked it up and my fingers also glowed, like a luminous watch! I'll make a point of looking but not sure where.

There used to be lots of them in a sand quarry not far from here, I must go and see if they are still there. It is an amazing sight when there are hundreds of them, a bit spooky too.

I can remember seeing them when I was growing up, but haven't seen them for years now. The lavae in not unlike the ladybird lavae

The last time I saw one up here in the North East (Northumberland) I was just a lad of ten or so. It was feasting on a snail.
