That's good news Derek, luckily there's been no frost so you can leave the door ajar for them.

That's good, you should get one of those nest box cameras (bit expensive though!) set up Derek so you can watch them next time! We have baby blackbirds in the front garden just leaving the nest & lots of baby starlings hanging around in the back garden along with bluetits & goldfinches.

I've got a blackbird and a robin nesting in the pyracantha on the back of the house, and I spotted a wren going in and out of the ivy on the fence. Wrens nested in the same place last year so perhaps they have just re-furbished the old nest.

There is no Teasel here. What else do goldfinches eat?

There is no Teasel here. What else do goldfinches eat? In my garden they love the sunflower hearts even though I also have teasels!

I had a big disappointment this evening. I found my blackbird chicks all dead. There were a lot of adult blackbird feathers on top and round the nest so it looks as though something ,probably a cat, has attacked the bird on the nest but why didn,t it take the chicks. They were untouched-just dead because they hadn't been fed. They were O.K.yesterday which was when I took the picture of the mother with food in its beak for the chicks. Hope I have better luck with my great tits.

Thanks Steve. The birds go off their food themselves at this time of the year, but I was worried about the goldfinches because they were still around, and there is no niger for them. There are thousands of dandelions and I saw small birds of another sort eating dandelions when I was in Scotland.
