I had approximately 13 starlings,(they wouldn't stay still enough for me to count properly), 3 sparrows, 2 blackbirds and a pigeon today. I'll try again tomorrow, although there's rain forecast, which might keep them away entirely.

All I saw here, this morning, were three well-fed looking Wood-pigeons and my usual three magpies, who are almost tame at this stage. They come every morning to eat some cat food. Poor Minnie, my cat, has had to be put to sleep, so the magpies are getting what is left of her food.

Very sorry to hear about your cat whisker , poor Minnie, that must have been upsetting. I did the RSPB birdwatch on Sunday & put the results online today, nothing unusual turned up but more than I expected as it was drizzly:- a magpie, collared dove, woodpigeon, bluetit, robin, 2 blackbirds & 15 starlings - think they must have flown over from Andrew's with a couple of mates! There were a couple of massive groups of starlings around on Saturday & Sunday & they were up & down in & out of the garden quite a few times.

It was wet most of Sunday here, so a quiet day for birds. I did see a robin though that I hadn't seen on Saturday. There were a few long tailed tits in the tree at the bottom of the garden, although as the tree isn't in our garden, they don't really count.

Nice to hear you've got long tail tits near you Andrew, we get them around here but haven't seen any for ages. All the starlings were back today, there must have been about 30 of them down at one time!

I didn't get to do the bird count as I was decorating mum's place. I just love seeing the long tailed tits in the garden, they are my favourite bird I think

The lorikeets start screeching in the afternoon here. There is a heap of food in the trees. We hear kookaburras most days too and curlews. Ibis are always pecking and herons are near the river.

Kookaburras are gorgeous Cherry , I remember seeing them in Chester zoo years ago & standing talking to them, don't know if they still have them there I seem to remember someone stealing one once!

When I was looking out of the patio doors at the soggy garden yesterday, the birds all suddenly decided to come down for food, the 2 robins were on the patio perched on the table looking at me, the blackbirds were down & 2 wrens were pottering around the containers & borders. One of the wrens jumped down into the border by the fence & popped back up with an enormous bright green caterpillar in it's beak, it was longer than the actual wren & it spent ages bashing it on the fence & taking it back to the ground again until it managed to eat it & there was just a bit of bright green goo hanging from it's beak - uggh! Nice to have natural pest control though!

I did the bird watch too, we have approx..10 Chaffinches, many Dunnocks, 3 Robins, 10 or so long tailed tits and 2 female pheasants, there was a male pheasant in the field next to us but he wasn't counted as he wasn't in our garden. Speaking of Robins, the one's in our garden over time have learned to hang onto the fat ball feeders! They kept trying to hang on but just couldn't do it, now they can hold on for quite a few seconds, they must be quite pleased with themselves

whisker sorry to hear about Minnie. We have been through that several times over the years. Didn't manage the bird watch this year. Lots of birds here and when I was in Sydney last year saw loads of Lorikeets, galahs and kookaburras, ibis and many others. Will have to see if I can salvage the pics as they were on old computer and my memory sick which I put them on to transfer has gone walkabout. Will connect up the old pc when I find time and try an put them on new PC.

Thanks sweetpea! Amazing to hear about those wonderful birds. Hope you get to transfer them onto your new PC. My usual birds are three magpies, which come every morning to scoff up the remains of Minnie's food. A couple of hooded crows, which scare aware the magpies. Several blackbirds and robins, as well as some smaller birds. Oh, I almost forgot - some wood-pigeons and some collared doves.
