I went out into the garden just after 6:30 tonight to top up the seed feeder on the feeding station. First though I put a handful of mealworms on the tray before heading back to the shed a few metres away to get the seed. I turned round to go back to the feeder and a robin was sat on the tray having his supper.

No wonder robins are so popular, Andrew. They are feisty little birds. I bought a planter in the shape of a bird cage, that I have adapted as a bird feeder, with a plate inside to hold the "robin seed". It's lovely to see robin hopping in and out of his cage to eat the seed. Now that you mention it, I must try some meal worms to see if he will take them. I do put them out on the path for the blackbirds and they take them.

This morning I watched two magpies taking a bath in a container of water at the bottom of the garden. Would have loved to have photographed them, but it was too far away.

The magpies here have been raiding the birds' nests in the gardens in our road, keep hearing the blackbirds shouting & seeing the magpies rifling around in the shrubs & trees, found the remains of a blackbird egg shell under our ivy tree.

such a shame when that happens SueA even worse when they take the babies from the nests. I had a blackbird here on Saturday that had a problem with it's beak, for some reason it couldn't shut it and was unable to feed, it kept drinking from the pond and following me round the garden, sad to say one of my friend's cats got it in the end, I was quite sad

That's sad isn't it but the poor thing probably wouldn't have survived very long if it couldn't eat. We've had a few longtail tits & goldfinches in the garden too this weekend but I don't think they nest here.

The magpies are real thigs, but I do feed them every day.
Happy Easter, Everybody!

This is a bit of a fuzzy photo as I was only using our 'little' camera to zoom in. But I love the expression on this robin. Our gardener was digging up turf to level a base for our greenhouse, and there were loads of huge worms etc, so he soon got a new friend hopping about nearby.

Bess it does look as though it's thinking 'hmm, what's going on here - new 'all you can eat buffet' being prepared?'

Since my new neighbour moved in, bringing with her two feral cats, almost all of my small birds seem to have disappeared. That includes several robins and blackbirds.

I have my newly adopted cat Suzie, who will probably see they don't! BTW, Suzie did me the favor of bringing live rat in through the window. That is a long story of how I had to get rid of the rat.

Apparently whisker it's a gift she's bringing you - ours used to jump through the window with live pigeons - many a time I've had to catch it and take it outside I don't know who was the most puffed out me or the pigeon
