The cat who I got to drop the starling the other day got one of the woodpigeons today, O.H. saw a load of feathers on the lawn this morning & then found the cat tucking into the pigeon at the end of the garden, poor bird. That cat is the skinny little hunter who climbs right up the trees & the woodpigeon was nearly as big as it, the cat seems to hunt for food but it belongs to someone as it sometimes has a collar on, I wish they would feed it more so it wouldn't be so keen on eating all the local birds.

it's such a shame seeing that SueA we have a few hunters round here, it's always sad at this time of the year

I like cats too grindle & this one is actually a sweet little thing but doesn't look very well cared for, I've seen it eating bird food & on the infrared camera at night eating hedgehog food too. The bird population seems to recover though & I'm more worried that people are forever cutting down mature trees in the gardens & surrounding areas so that there are fewer nesting sites for them around here.

Poor bird and poor cat. I never feel so mad at cats (or humans!) if they actually eat what they catch. It's the ones who do it for fun that I don't like.

We don't usually get jays in the garden either daisy & grindle so I was surprised to see this one on the camera. I have seen them flying over & sitting in the oak tree behind the garden though, usually when they're picking off the acorns. We have mainly wood pigeons & millions of starlings at the moment, all the little birds have disappeared.

my Dunnocks are still around and a Robin came back with a few great tits bobbing in now and again, but it's mostly the pigeons and magpies I'm seeing at the moment

Looks like you're going to be busy joysie21 - but that's better than sitting indoors waiting for the rain to stop. That is good news about the birds leaving the attic. If you have ants in the baskets the birds should get rid of them in no time at all - that's a pity you can't get the baskets on the fence...would a neighbour not help? - or maybe you'd rather not ask them..you could always ask someone like the postman, milkman or paper delivery if there are any close by I'm sure they wouldn't mind lending a helping hand...hope you find help from somewhere

I think it's a good 20 years since I've seen a Jay too - when we lived right out in the country as kids. You are very lucky, SueA. Must be really interesting having the auto camera like that... I'd be tempted by one if I thought I'd ever see anything more interesting on it than fighting pigeons!
Speaking of pigeons, I had a poor dead baby bird dropped on my garden table. I think it was a pidgeon, it was quite big despite being only a few days old. I admit I didn't get too close to ID it as it had been left out in the sun and smelt awful... urgh. I suspect the great big crows we have around here murdered it. Poor thing.
