I think so too grindle. The shop entrance is a good 30-40 metres inside the nearest entrance shopping centre, and the aisle where I was in a good 20-30metres from the front of the shop, so I don't think he could have been there by chance.

Clever bird, perhaps it secretly lives in there!

Waxwing. Not the best photo, but it was dull out there and a long way away.

They're so beautiful aren't they Geumlover, you are lucky, I think it's a lovely pic. I've never actually seen one in real life although they are supposed to visit the area, I usually hear about sightings of them in supermarket car parks! I did see a female stonechat yesterday on a walk at Brockholes nature reserve & I'd never seen one of those before either, didn't get a pic. though.

We went to the Heather Centre yesterday, they are trying to recover from a massive fire so just trading a small amount. We were sitting in the temporary tea room and 2 crested tits arrived at the bird feeders they are rare birds in the UK, just in the Highlands. They were just gorgeous and felt quite privileged to see them

This thrush tried to protect the Rowan berries from the Waxwings.

I wondered why there were no small birds around this morning & then I spotted this little chap (sparrowhawk) on the fence, he hopped over to next door's fence after & seemed to be trying to figure out if this tree by their pond was real! Not a very good photo as I took it on zoom through the bedroom window :-

Tinypic wouldn't let me post this last night, lets try again... Starlings, so pretty up close Tweet tweet? Oh dear. I wondered why the fat balls etc were going so fast in the back hedge, when I know we don't have huge numbers of birds.

Aww, love the little mouse Bess & starlings are really beautiful aren't they (hard to tell when they're all busy fighting each other over the food usually!).

O.H. rushed out into the back garden yesterday when we got up as one of the local cats had got a wood pigeon. He chased the cat off & another cat which had just arrived to join in the fight, the garden was covered with feathers but the bird was still alive fluttering along in the border. It had been bitten & lost wing feathers & couldn't fly & O.H. managed to pick it up & put it in a box in the garage, when I collected all the feathers up from the garden there seemed to be more in the bag than on the bird! I phoned the local animal sanctuary as I thought it would have to be put down & neither of us is capable or wants to kill anything & he asked me to bring it in. Looking at it he said it was a P.T.S. (put to sleep) case as once bitten by a cat birds quickly die of infection unless they get put on antibiotics straight away, poor little thing was just sitting there very patiently but would never have recovered.
