Sounds like what birdwatchers call LBB or LBJ Roofy - little brown birds or little brown jobs! I would guess at maybe sparrows as they go around in little gangs but they could be something more unusual such as reed buntings depending on what the area is like where you are now.

Hmm... weeelll... I'm fairly close to the river. And a marina. If that helps ? The little brown birds weren't wearing wellington boots, or carrying flotation aids however ?

They could possibly be reed buntings then Roofy, you'll have to try & take a pic. next time they visit.

I just see them as they zoom across the road. Hmm..... I shall ponder this. I've tried using the RSPB's "bird identifying" thingy, but it didn't work.

A couple of longtail tits have been visiting the garden here for a couple of days, gorgeous little birds, I took a couple of photos through the window but they're not very good:-

They are so cute & they do sound as though they're twittering away talking to each other don't they Rosie, they are fast grindle - by the time I got focused on them they'd gone- hence slightly blurry pics.! There was a huge buzzard gliding & circling over the garden yesterday just enjoying the sun, beautiful!

Sat down have a cup of tea & a biscuit yesterday morning & these 2 started knocking on the patio doors! A pair of longtail tits seem to have moved in to the trees in the garden next door but one & keep coming into our garden looking for food/nesting material etc. I think they were picking spiders, spider eggs & spiders webs from the window & door frames, they picked around the log store & chairs & next door's conservatory as well. They came back in the afternoon as well when I had the patio doors open & almost came inside - cheeky little things. The photos are rubbish as I couldn't get a focus on them as they moved around so fast.

Not strictly a garden bird but while down to the local library we saw this large black bird sitting on a branch in the river which goes through town. it was still there when we came out. It was a cormorant and a rather uncommon bird here. I've seen plenty on the thames and in the large park in Peterborough but first one here in town. Tried a pic so will download later.

We had a jay visiting the garden yesterday, not seen one for a while but it didn't stay as there were a lot of other birds down in the garden at the time. We also have the annual baby starling bombardment, they come down in large numbers with their parents onto the bird feeders & then when they all scatter there's usually the odd one who tries to fly through the patio doors! If I'm in & spot them I try to stand there to put them off & if I'm in & don't notice I end up jumping when the thud happens, they never seem to hurt themselves though as they're only fluttering & turn round & go straight back to the feeders or trees!

The starling nursery in the garden this morning:- "Now listen to your mum- don't fly into those patio doors, there's nothing interesting on the other side of them!"

Baby robins have been fighting over who 'owns' our garden as well, this little one was having a scrap with another yesterday.
