End of May for planting out tubers in the open ground....when all possibility of frost is over..However, you could start them off in posts earlier in your polytunnel.

I used my heated propagator this year - my tubers were in pots, and it gave them a good early start. I know the experts on here start them in trays.

We start them in trays for cuttings....then they can be planted in the open ground at the end of May

I plant my tubers at the beginning of May, then they are through after the frosts are finished here. I normally plant out the young plants the last weekend in May.

I never plant out tubers. Always cuttings from pot tubers or young plants bought in.

There is two reasons i plant out any dahlia tubers, One is the pom Moorplace i get more shoots that way then when i stop them i get a plant that keeps the bloom down to size because Moorplace can go over size.
The other tubers are the decorative form that i have finished taking cuttings from i reduce this tuber to just the one shoot this gives me earlier flowers for seed purposes.
