Geoff Hoyles garden looked fantastic!!!! on the idiot box tonight. It's amazing considering the poor season we've all had, my lawn is 8" high in places (can't walk on it, too waterlogged) and the pots and baskets are finished!

Maybe you are not very sheltered Steve2. This place is very exposed to the fen winds.

Had my first show today at the wolsingham and wear valley agricultural show.I could only manage to take 1 vase of small decs leopold chloe and 1 vase of small semi cactus oakwood goldcrest as nothing else was ready (still about 7/10 days behind).I was first with both vases and got best vase in show and the silver medal with the oakwood goldcrest. Now all I need is a couple of weeks of sunshine to try and get things caught up.

Just incredible how things are still behind up north. I've been cutting 2nd flush on my dahlias, 3rd flush on the way....well the wife has been cutting them and filling up vases all round the house. What i've found is Ryecroft Rebel on 2nd flush still produces good sized blooms, as does Ruskin Bride....both of which are about 7 foot tall now Still, you can't get better than a silver medal, so well done.

The winning 3 vases of 5 smalls shown by gordon hodgson these are all his own seedlings. From the top westerton reserve, westerton folly and westerton pretoria all small ball dahlias. He also had a seedling in the small ball class westerton tango and one in the large cactus class westerton jacko he also has two at the leeds trials westerton southside a small dec and a one that will be released by halls next year a large dec westerton lillian. It appears I have the only one that is no good a mini dec westerton scallywag which is a nice colour with plenty of petal but has very poor centres.

A small dec I am trying rossendale stephanie. This is the first bloom to flower It seems to be weather proof (growing outside and with all the rain we have had has no marks) but the centre on this one is a bit oval.
