The dahlia seedlings tubers including Garden Friends, are now in the seed trays on the bench. I was going to place them in the heated propagator, but i do not know where it is. ;D The show varieties will go on the bench in Jan. First cuttings from a lot of them will be to thick to use, the second cuttings are usually ok to root.

I start all mine at the same time.I use parrafin heaters under the bench for bottom heat and a blow heater on a thermostat set at 10 degrees for air temp.I try and root the first cuttings as long as thay are not to thick, and I use these as mother plants, taking the growing tip out at 3/4 pairs of leaves. This gives you 4/6 cuttings per mother plant, the mother plant is then kept for next seasons pot tubers.

scrumpy will mine be ok to start in march in the greenhouse i dont show them so was thinking that will be early enough Should be fine. If you start in March, under ideal conditions, eyes should appear within a few weeks, and from those eyes the first cuttings will come a few weeks later. So starting them off 1st March, your 1st cutting should be rooted by about 10th April. From that first cutting, new eyes form, so in theory cuttings from that should be ready by 1st week in May. We start them earlier to get a better selection of cuttings by mid April.

Well our Halls catalogue has had a lot of use since it has come and it appears with OHs persuasion that we are getting 9 new varieties this year!!
Only a couple of a couple of varieties which we will then take cuttings from next year and in my defense we have culled a lot of varieties from last year and have more space
