I really like Moonlight Scrumpy, it's gorgeous. All my dahlias were doing fine till the recent winds. They have been blown over and stems have broken

I have always grown Brenda T under covers for showing, But after looking at this bloom grown in the garden without covers, after two days of non stop rain followed today, by showers, the only marks on the face of the bloom is two insects sheltering from the weather. The back of the bloom i thought that would have spotted up or damped off completely but no clean as a whistle. It may be worthwhile trying some on the allotment next year without covers, then i could get more varieties under cover that really needs covering.

I have recently discovered your forum, which has some wonderful information. My season will start soon. All my plants are currently in pots, while I am digging beds for them. There will be a large variety as I am newish to Dahlias and I am working out what has good vase qualities at present. You have many cultivars which are new to me, so that makes your posts really interesting.

Thank you, Cherry. I have just been pinching out my most precocious plants, except for one Tsuki Yori No Shisha which I shall allow to grow its terminal bud for an early season treat. I got four plants, then heard that they don't last well in a vase, so I probably have more than I need of that one anyway. For anyone who doesn't know this cultivar, it's a fimbriated white. Here is someone else's photo of it, as I have not grown it before: www.flickr.com/photos/m-ursus/4823737119/
