Hi WF, here we go again, have you sent out a friendly letter to the opposition, wishing them every success, on coming second and third again this year. Don,t worry about been late on setting them up, it more important you do not miss the stopping date of the plants by much.

helpfull tip for beginers if you suffer from wind dont buy a kite seriously if you have wind problems in your area if you plantbroad beans on the windward side of your dahlias they will act as a natural barrier for your dahlia

I like that AJ, I have one very similar but without the red edges.
It looks stunning in the sun.

Another dahlia convert hi AJ! After reading a bit about dahlias on the other threads figured it was okay to save the twigs I cut off from the tubers (that I dug and potted up) very happy to observe that the sticks I randomly stuck in some pots now have lots of small leaves.

I'm just here for the beer ;D, my big problem with dahlia's is the exposure where I live. There is a huge selection of tall one which I think would be bent in half up here, so I'm going to see how I get on with with one 20'' or less.

Unfortunately I haven't got electricity in g'house yet and can't get paraffin so looks like I will have to go for the chicken leg method which I don't really like.

I have a bit of a problem. I've taken dahlia cuttings and most of them have rooted (I pull it and it doesn't come out of the pot) and each cutting is about a foot long. When each of them have around 8 large leaves I take them down (I use part of my roofdeck as some sort of greenhouse) and put them out in the garden but even if it gets as much sun as when it was up in the roof it wilts right away. Nothing's changed, just the location, same amount of sunlight, same watering routine. When I pull out the cutting I find that most of it that's in the ground has gone slimy. Tried to water it less often but they still go slimy and die. What am I doing wrong? I haven't repotted them yet they're still in the same 6 inch pots filled with compost and they're not in the ground just lined up in an old bench.
