This dahlia bug is slowly starting to get worse. Hubby was looking for his old bonsai pots and I couldn't tell him that I'd run out of pots and nicked most of his big bonsai pots for the new batch of dahlia seedlings.

I'll ask but I've noticed as I've read a lot of announcements in the papers that it's mostly orchid shows, more orchid shows and more orchid shows I think it's like every 2 months or so. Haven't got rare and ****** expensive orchids so haven't really tried joining exhibits. But I have this neighbor who asked if I was willing to join this gardener's club and they have a yearly or twice yearly competition for nice plants. I think I'll try that. They don't really have like a list of what plants are allowed and which are not, the categories are just landscape design competition, and flower arrangement things so that's nice.

My dahlia tubers are here. I was wondering if I have to grow them in the shade house for cuttings or can I put the whole thing in a clay pot (without taking it out of the square plastic pot) and put in compost then grow it like a regular patio plant. The tubers are in four inch square pots I guess it's was for taking cuttings.

I should think the very young growth would need the shade house or they will fry up when the hot sun hits it.

Okay in the shade house it goes. I'm very excited already. I hope most of them are really nice shades of purple

[/quote] Don't you go getting any ideas that I can do this without you Tel, in another couple of years I may cut the umbilical cord but right now I am still dependent on your knowledge.

Jrae there is a true, but hard to believe story attached to this 'in' joke, but I am sure WF will put you in the picture in a private message. Do let Jrae know the story WF.

Err I'm getting a bit off topic but WF I looked up that website that my neighbor gave me about the gardeners club thing. I found that I'd have trouble joining it because A) I don't know all the scientific names of plants I have, and everyone there talks in "geek" speak. And the focus is still B) Orchids -- orchids as elements for landscaping, orchids in flower arrangements, orchids here and there and C) I don't like mixing with people who just go brag to each other about their "expensive and rare collections." The forum in there would have been so funny if I didn't find it so annoying. I decided I'll just grow whatever plants I like for my own enjoyment.

I ordered small plants as they were cheaper than tubers so I can't get cuttings, can I? Will I get tubers from the plants next year.I feel bad that I can't offer Tel and Rosie cuttings of the dahlias they like
