I've been doing quite a lot of online dahlia 'window shopping' and I was wondering if a list of suppliers of dahlias would be a useful thread.
I was not thinking of list of 100s of dahlia suppliers world wide, just the ones that we refer to in our posts. Not as an advert but as a directory of suppliers and where possible where they will send orders to.
eg Clearview Dahlias from USA will also accept foreign orders to Canada and UK. eg Accent Dahlias USA orders only.
What do you think? I won't be hurt if nobody likes the idea, it just could potentially save a lot of time and trust me I have spent hours searching for varieties. It is really disappointing when you see a dahlia that you fall in love with and then discover that you just can't get it because they don't accept foreign orders.

Good idea ;D....Maybe you could work out a coding system to show where members have had good or bad experiences as a warning/recommendation... Good Luck!

This North American list has some shipping information, but I think I found another one with more details about where they send to. I will post it if I find it. www.dahlias.net/supplierlst.htm The one below is useful for tracking down certain Dahlias in North America: dahlias.net/dbiglist.htm

I don't think it is useful to list suppliers who do not export. Not exporting is the most common situation, so expect that they don't unless you have proof that they do. Listing places that do ship internationally is more manageable. Wynne's ship worldwide, they mentioned it on their facebook page. Here is their main site: www.wynnesdahlias.com/ FGL Dahlias ship worldwide: fgldahlias.com/Cowlitz River Dahlias ship worldwide: dahlias4u.com/2013%20catalog.htmSwan Island Dahlias ship worldwide, and I was considering importing from them, but I have read a few comments which made me wonder whether I could do better elsewhere. Peter's Dahlien ships worldwide: www.peters-dahlien.at/Many of the Dutch suppliers ship internationally. Insel Mainau have a list of Dahlias they grow which can be ordered through them from a group of suppliers and shipped worldwide: www.mainau.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Downloads_2012/Sortimentsliste_Dahlien_2012_web.pdfRemember, if you do not buy local, you must be aware of the rules for importing into your country. There may be regions you cannot import from because of plant pests or diseases in that region. You will be paying the supplier for a phytosanitary certificate and international shipping. You may be paying authorities in your own country for an import license, quarantine, or customs duties. There may be different rules for importing dormant tubers as opposed to green plants. I haven't found out who in the UK ships dormant tubers internationally yet. It won't help you, but it may help me.

Listing places that do ship internationally is more manageable. I think that you are totally right.Remember, if you do not buy local, you must be aware of the rules for importing into your country. And that is the whole point, rather than spending hours and hours in isolation, going round in circles, trying to find the right combination of letters to enter into a search engine to get what I was looking for and then loosing the link that you had and generally going aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. If we know where to look we can spend more time concentrating on the dahlias and our families

I noticed that change at Hollyhill, too. However, over time, I think Cowlitz River Dahlias will carry their full range. I'll have another look at Dan's Dahlias. I have an idea they may not ship to my part of the world, but with a bit of luck I may be wrong.
