Ow The gorgeous Dolphin Fountain in the centre of the Italian Garden One of the six statues in the Italian Garden The view from the roof of Thornbridge Hall...including the Koi Lake and the Bowling Green Thought you may want to see the most important section of the Glasshouse-where we have our coffee!! it's also got hobs, ovens and a dishwasher in there!!!! ....and 2 rather lovely lemons trees in full blossom and slowely ripening fruit

Well hurrah and lazzar!!! The edging is finally going down on the new Scented Terrace...it now seems increasingly likey that it will be ready this year!!!! Only 4 months until we have our first opening this year so a lot to do in not a great amount of time. What were doing is laying out the metal edging shapes on the surface of the ground, checking that they are all in the correct place, and then we will hammer them in to the correct level. As it seems with all gardening, a lot of hidden preperation to get to the end result . Fortunately we only have to double dig the outer borders of the new terrace. But a 30ft section took me all of wednesday to do, and I removed 9 wheelbarrows of stones, bricks and shale .....and that was the shortest section!!!! Only another 4 to do (all of which are 3x the length of the one I've completed!!) Hopefully next week I'll be less of a builder, and more of a gardener!!!

That is a lot of work Bists. Will you post photos as it progresses? I'd be very interested to see how these large gardens are created.
Who does the designing and decides on the planting?

Thats an awful lot of digging Bists, but I'm sure the end result will be well worth the effort. Look forward to seeing more pictures as the work progresses ;D

That would be me!!! The design has evolved over the last few years...from the original sign off a sunken seating area and water rills, to the present design of large geometric beds and colour block planting. The planting design is worked out between us 3 gardeners. I've done an initial planting plan, and then we go over it trying to improve it, and ensuring that it will give us the look that we want...it also sometimes comes down to what plants are available, and the condition that they are in when we go and see them.

What a week!! The weather has been glorious so far, and long may it continue We've been raking, leveling, more raking, and more leveling, of all the areas to be turved on the new scented terrace...the area is about 200m2 in total, so lots of work!! This is one of the stone pieces that we are moving onto the new terrace - the entire lot weighs about 2 tons...lots of fun moving it, especially when it's irreplacable!! We've also moved onto the terrace 2 stone urns, and 4 very heavy stone balls, which we shall use as impromptue seating. Certainly hope that the weathers stays ok into next week, as we won't finish levelling until monday at the earliest...after that, the joy of turfing!!!
