I thought you had left us in mid garden, Bists. ;D What a great job you and your fellow gardeners have doing on that project.

Great to see you back Bists. What a difference, it looks stunning, it is a shame I cant smell it. The box balls look wonderful, the whole garden looks wonderful, it it as you hopped it would be? I'd be so proud if I had achieved that standard but I would be interested to hear the verdict from the creator. Image two and three didn't work because of a missing character so I have popped them in here. Is that a chamomile seat in one of your photos? Does it take much maintenance?

Thanks WF for adding my photos - a blond moment again!!!
As of yet the Chamomile seat takes hardly any maintenance at all. I planted it very heavily with about 145 9cm pots of Chamomile Treneague, so that the weeds haven't had chance to fight their way through the planting.
As for how pleased I am with it....i'll be more interested to see it come up again next year, as I do tend to find that a new garden on such a large scale always looks slightly 'plonked'. I'm also annoyed with my bulb supplier who swore on pain on death that the bulbs would be the actual colour I'd ordered. They should have been dark burgundy/purple.....not pillar box red!!! However, (moaning apart!!!!) it is lovely to see another section of the gardens completed, and I'm really pleased with the Rose Arches, and also the Roses that we purchased from David Austin. There are still lots more plants to be planted in Autumn......and we're also about to start work on the next major rejig in the garden - a secret garden surrounding the soon to be working, formal pond and fountain.

Please post more photos as you go Bists. Large gardens, like yours, always look like they have been there forever, it is interesting to know they haven't and to see the amount of work which goes into them.

Well we had an amazingly successful day for the NGS last sunday. We opened at 10am, and had queues at the gate all day long. In fact, it always makes me smile, as the most determined of gardeners arrived at about 930am, and made a bee line for the plant section. As normal, we have a plant creche, so they all purchased lots, and then went for a coffee and a slice of cake before looking around the grounds!!!! The weather was fantastic, and everyone had a really great time. We ended up raising, what is a record for a sunday opening in Derbyshire, £8500!!!! No pressure for next year then!! This week, we've been able to take it a little easier, and have been reshaping some of the Yew trees, that line the outside of the veg terrace. The dog in the pic, is my lovable, but crazy, beagle, called Barney....if sticks were rabbits, we'd have no problem with chewed plants....he will chase rabbits, but trying to get him back...
