I have stones running down either side of the green house and small paving slabs down the centre. From the door up to the middle of the greenhouse water seems to gather here , just on the slabs , worse after rain. And there is an unpleasant smell When I erected this new greenhouse on the site of the old one a few years ago, I found this area of soil was blacky green and foul smelling and I had to remove it. I have been very careful with watering so its not that, nor is it the water table as the greenhouse is on the highest part of the garden and slopes down slightly from the GH door . my soil is heavy clay Anyone got any ideas of how to deal with this

Was thinking of digging a trench all the way down the greenhouse to the outside and filling it with stones , wonder if that would work ? I see the perforated drainage pipe is very expensive

If you can get hold of one of these post hole borers and drill a hole then wait and see if it fills with water then you will have a better idea of where it is coming from. If you dig a soakaway as you suggest that might help combined with a small trench leading away and filled with rubble. its either that or land drains which can be more expensive these days.

Thanks SP, I think the soak away is the only way to go, I`ll have to slope it carefully all the way down , not looking forward to digging that out .

Ladybird, we made a soak away at the far end of greenhouse, one side of greenhouse drains in to water butt but the other side we just did an extension of the other end into a soak away which was just a lge hole filled with stones and rubble out the garden and it's worked a treat, good luck

Ladybird, we made a soak away at the far end of greenhouse, one side of greenhouse drains in to water butt but the other side we just did an extension of the other end into a soak away which was just a large hole filled with stones and rubble out the garden and it's worked a treat, good luck I wonder are you talking about the greenhouse guttering collecting water from the roof ? My water is gathering on the ground. I figured out that the back end and far side of the greenhouse is lower than the ground outside , as I did a fair bit of cut and fill to lower and level the area.I think the rain water is just draining into the greenhouse from there. Searching on the net I found others with the same problem , they blame it on the walked on compacted clay along the greenhouse path . I think I have both problems.
