I have several roses in pots, they seemed to escape all bugs last year except a smattering of black spot, but this year they're covered in it. I am not all that sure what to do about the black spot, but something seems to be eating my David Austen rose 'St Swithun' and some of it looks horrible. Can anyone tell me what's up with it and where to start looking for a cure? I'm a rose newbie really. This rose has had one lovely flush of flowers so far, but i'm not sure it'll want to make another one if it carries on like this! I'm also worried it'll spread to my other roses. Any ideas please? PS - taking me a while to work out how to post photos on here, if you can't see anything yet, please come back later

Pictures are there Bess. i think it's rose sawfly that could be eating your rose leaves.

I googled Rose Sawfly and yup, i have seen one of the nasty big yellow beggars on a plant this year, but didn't know what it was. Thanks. I'll attack them first and see how it goes.

I found one solitary sawfly on my Iceberg rose...needless to say it has been squished.

Give them a dose of, 'Roseclear' which is both fungicide and insecticide. Clear away any diseased leaves which can carry the disease over to next year and next year spray early to avoid it altogether. prevention is better than cure.

Thank you I've been using a different spray, which I bought as it was the only thing I could find locally but it doesn't seem awfully effective. I'll see if I can order some Rosaclear and drat the postage lol
