need some advice have some nice dahlias but short of some varitys can i take some cuttings now and/if they will throw tubers off this year and will they be able to be set away jan with my other tubers

They won't produce tubers by January. You can take cuttings now but you need artificial lights and warmth to keep them growing throughout the winter. Then, when you have a reasonable sized plant you stop it, and then take cuttings that emerge from the leaf joints. Once that is done, then you grow the plant on to make a pot tuber for the following year.
Hopefully though your tubers will do all the work for you.
