Just received my mini plant order from Halls. First time ordering from them and the plants are in really good health, going straight to the greenhouse to pot up. I got, Minley Carol, Hapet Vinette, Madam de Rosa, Art Deco, Tudor 1, Spartacus and White Alvas which I had 2 years ago, but lost over wintering. Received my order from there also today.

I double-stopped last year on 2nd and 30th of June, Tel. Grew them 10-up and the first flowers were a little bit small. They started flowering around the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Found it a strange one to grow. Didn't grow very tall, a bit shy on throwing up laterals, but after a double stop lots of side shoots to choose from and it seemed to flower for ever. After a bit of sorting out I grew it 7 up, it didn't get to size, but that's not unusual for me, so I'd say 6 up with lots of disbudding.

They both look like winners. Are you planning to show them, as I've seen they have done well at many shows. Barberry Pip looks a bit similar to the seedling you raised last year and posted pictures of. I'm a larger flower fan myself, whether they're Decs, Semi-cactus, Cactus, Pompon or Collarete. Although I do have a large range of Gallery's. You can tell I'm a garden dahlia man and not a showman, though after what will be my first visit to the National this year, I might have a re-think

I think I'll wait till after the show season. Not sure I've got the eye for what's right, and what's not. From what I've seen on videos and youtube clips, it all seems a bit daunting . But you never know Cherry, you never know

Reading between the lines @markymate, I would go so far as to say you are thinking of putting a sneaky entry into a show. What have you got to lose?

If Markymate does not place a sneaky entry in a show this year, if he stay's with us, I would not bet against him not showing next year. The dahlia growers on here may be twisting his arm to get some on the show bench.

All 60 cuttings taken in february have had the growing tip taken out and will be used for cutting material and next years pot tubers.Another 120 have been potted up and the propogater is full to bursting.I can't praise Jack Gotts tubers highly enough I bought 4 daves choice and have taken 50 cuttings already. Both gardens have been rough dug at long last.

I'm going to try and go to as many shows as I can this summer. Unfortunately, where I live, there are not many Dahlia shows, so a bit of travelling will be needed. As a new member of the NDS I'm trying to learn as much as I can, especially from this forum. So as I said to Cherry you never know, just don't want to make a fool of myself .
