The dahlias have really grown this week despite the stormy weather, they are the only ones enjoying the heat

Thanks for those pictures markymate. I may try a row or two next year with the wire to see how well it supports the plants on a windy Welsh hillside.
Those plants look impressive candy blue, and a good size polytunnel too.

candyblue, great polytunnel, do you grow dahlias inside it or just outside?....I made a fresh dahlia bed this season, incorporated Irish moss peat x 200 litres, general purpose compost x 400 litres, and 200 litres of farmyard manure ( the manufactured stuff ) my dahlias have thrived in this lot to the extent they are now in heavy bud and coming upto 3ft tall. I only planted out 2nd week in June, they are so rampant, and the stalkes on some are 2inch in diameter, they are all medium decs...just 24 of em in a smallish bed

Welcome Burkey. Another dahlia person. That is great, even though I feel outnumbered. Perhaps you could look in the 'How To' section for using Tinypic to host your photos for putting on the forum. I am not good at it, but that is how I do it.

I load my images into a graphics software I use paint.NET and then choose the resize option, reduce the image size, save it. That's how I get the image a smaller file size. Then I don't have a problem, shrink it a bit until it fits.

Hiya moonlight, thank you for the welcome...will get some pics posted...whoops, tried posting 3 pics..files to big its saying...how to reduce them down?? Welcome to the forum Burkey, you'll find all the help and advice you need about dahlias right here. I use Photobucket.com, really easy to join and upload, just select direct, and then insert image on the icon at the top of this page, paste and enter and the picture appears. It took me a few goes to get it right. Just remember, where ever the cursor is, is where your picture will be inserted. Hope that makes sense

No ones allowed to retire we need every one!
We only put the polytunnel up this year so are growing outside, may try a few inside next year.
I am hoping to have some ready for Sandy, but am not holding my breath. We should still go up even if we don't have anything to show, hope Stanley isnt growing as fast as the dahlias

Oh well, one has tried tried and better tried to upload pics onto here but to no avail!...Why is it so hard to upload pics ? easy peasy on facebook, never known anything as difficult as this site before....Anyways, todays news...Had a dozen giant mini plants delivered second week in june which hadn't been stopped.I stopped these plants myself & decided to hormone root the tops i took off to stop the plants, over these last few weeks they have all rooted and made great new mini plants. I had a good look at them this morning, the root ball was good, very good indeed. I have this afternoon decided to plant them in a fresh bed rather than leave em to make pot tuber, field tubers make better stock me thinks. Anyway because of the late planting, i am going to grow them just one up to perfection, just one giant dahlia per plant and then let em make good tuber...I may also protect the seed heads as well to give me seed stock for next season. Tis a shame about the photos, it needs to be made much easier, cause i have loads to show.
