Came away with the silver medal for the poms and the bronze for Wyn's Favourite. neither exhibit deserved a medal, if I was the judge, I would not have awarded any medals in the dahlia classes. Oh my gosh, that's a bit harsh. Reading your posts you always come across as being very fair but was the standard really that low? Was there a good reason why the date of the show was changed? Hopefully with more notice there will more strong competition in the dahlia classes next year? The weather has been rubbish and it might have put some people off going if their blooms were not up to standard. I hope that you haven't been put off going next year. p.s. Maybe you should sit the judging exam... seriously (or have I missed that you already are?) No moonlight, I have not sat my judging exam. The standard really was low, including mine. The show was brought forward because they share a football teams clubhouse, and the team are playing at home for the next two matches so the room was not available.

Good result there candyblue. The pics are good too. Cracking result, especially those mediums that look huge. You must tell us the varieties.

Just back from an expensive 4 days in Southport. Luckily not many entries in some of my classes so got 5 firsts, 2 x 2nds and 2 x 3rds. Steve put in some tremendous miniatures, far better than anything I had. Also, Ian had some nice Dianes. I think I may have said hello to Ian without knowing who I was talking to. Typical me, when I'm arranging them I'm on a different planet and don't take anything in Will post some photos later, I think I have some good ones of Steves.

Well done mark your'e doing well with barbarry suprise. Yes well done.I was never a great fan of the barbarry dahlias. Only ever grew about 3 or 4 the names I can't remember now. I always thought that he turned out so many that it was a case of quantity over quality but obviously some good'uns in there.

Thanks everyone !!
Yes, I would be the first to admit not all Barbarry miniatures are the best out there but there a few of late that grow well for me.
Ones that I do like are Surprise, Alex and Gala. Alex looked poor at the midlands last year as did many miniatures due to the hot weather, this year it looks a different prospect.
Barbarry Pip never was and never will be my cup of tea even though a lot of growers jumped on it the minute it was released. Out of those same growers not many have retained it's services today.
Miniatures are my thing and if a variety fails to get me a vase after 2 seasons, its gone. Miniature dec's come and go I think John Digweeds(Marston)stable buck the trend and prove the test of time.

Three shows in a week, Mark, made me feel tired just reading it, lol.
Seriously though, congratulations on your successes, hope you do as well for the rest of the season.
Also a big well done to scrumpy, ian and steve on their success at Southport, and everyone else who has staged exhibits/won cards so far.
