i have put an order in with halls when will be the best time to plant tubers in the ground am looking at lochend dahlias am ordering another dozen who has had dealings with them what is there stock like not haveing much luck with the dahlia cutting they seem to be damping off on the other hand have nearly 80 chrysanths

robh. I did get Lochend's catalogue this year, but never ordered anything from them, as I found what I wanted else where, but they do have a good reputation. If you are planting brought tubers, which tend to be small, I normally plant them into 5" pots towards the end of March, and keep them in the greenhouse before hardening off, ready for when all frosts have gone. I just keep an eye that they don't get pot bound, and if I see any problems, I pot them up. You could leave it till Mid April, but I always find some tubers grow faster than others. Not sure which type of Dahlias you are after, but have a look at Anglia bulbs or Grains Baumaux in France. Mark
