I saw one of these today. It was easy to spot because it has orange and black stripes. Quite pretty. If a bird picks it up, it would soon drop it because it would taste very nasty. The warning is in the orange and black stripes.

The warning is in the orange and black stripes. Have you tried it then Cherry? We tend to get quite a few of these every year in the wild garden. The adult moths are about in daylight and are a bright red with some black. the caterpillars use ragwort as a food plant so I always leave some to grow especially as we don't have any horses that might eat it.

I did not know that sweetpea and I always pull it out when I see it. I will leave some there in future. It was not on ragwort actually. It was a pretty leafy weed which I don't know.

I took this photo out in the garden just the other day, and looked up to see what it was. My elderly neighbour pulled up the weed with the caterpillar on, didn't know what to do with it, and so gave it to me... When my little sister was in her 'Goth/Punk' phase she used to wear much similar clothing to this caterpillar, from what I remember!! I have only ever seen the moth once before. Very cool.

What a good photo of it Bess. I went out the next day to find it to photograph it but it had left that home.

Not quite sure what big beastie is, some type of hawk moth - I guess I found what's been chomping on my fuschias (well this one anyway!)
