I have! 1 of my Dad's seedlings has a hairy stem. Seriously.
I've been round my Dad's today and he has been showing me his seedlings and one of things he asked me, Had I ever heard of a hairy dahlia before? No Neither have I in all the years that I've been growing, I've never seen a hairy dahlia until now.
Look at this.
Close up
Closer up still
He's got some really nice seedlings but this is the only that is hairy.

Hi Moonlight haven't you ever heard of 'Hirsute Hannah'? Apparently you get a free packet of Veet with every plant order.

Interesting, Moonlight!
I was recently gifted a clump of species Dahlia sorensenii, and the grower said that it is easy to tell from our typical Dahlia variabilis species because the stalks are hairy.
I've grown AC Abby for a couple years, and haven't noticed any difference in the stalk or stems in the fully grown plants. Of course, I don't remember hairiness when they were young sprouts, either... They are too small still to comparison check right now, as I just got them going this week.

Hi cici let's hope the tuber is not wrongly labelled and its not Ac Abby ! Eek What did you think of it as a bloom ? Good form ? Colour seems to vary .

The form by US standards is good... Does very well at the shows. I personally find the colors to look a bit muddy, preferring a crisp definition or smoother blend of colors. Once it starts blooming, the flowers are nonstop and consistent. The first year I had decided to cull it due to my personal preference, but kept growing it as the tubers are easy to keep and blooms were so consistent. AC Abby has grown on me now, and would probably replace if I lost it.
