guys am lookin for some advice from you guys that have lights in the greenhouse i have quite a few dahlias that i have took cuttings from i want to bring them through the winter what sort of light do i need how many hours do i leave it on for and what sort of price am i looking at i use gas heating at the moment but might switch bech warming cables do they draw much power ive been told to use 2.5 twincore for the lights but i dont know if that would be heavey enough for the heating cable

linkElectricity wise, if tube is 50 watts and is left on for 20 hours a day it uses 1 K watt , which is about 12p. A really good light ( 8 tubes ) would thus be about £1 a day.

Ideally, yes, because normal winter daylight hasn't got the same spectrum of "growing" light as what we have in spring and summer. However, you can experiment and say leave it on for 12 hours only during darkness. That'll be better than nothing and should help. However, you need to keep your greenhouse above 50'f also.
