i notice guys are cutting there dahlias down but leaveing them in the ground what is the reason for that im cutting mine down and lifting as some of them in pots i havent emptyied the yuber out the pot is this ok is there any hard and fast rules i dont think i will be keepping my barbarrys i have sultan bluebird and a few others

Don't take them completely out of the pots just remove the top compost / soil out of the pot to expose the top of the tuber crown then trim the stem back to approx 4" turn the pots upside down in the greenhouse and keep frost free. When you want to start them off to take cutting they can then be started off with a little heat kept in the pots if you like or out of the pots onto the heated bed then you can take cuttings Or just keep them frost free, they will start to throw shoots then you can plant the whole tuber back into the grown at planting time. The Barberries are better kept by keeping pot tubers as the ground roots are sometimes a little poor and thin
