Old tights or stockings cut into3/4" strips make good plant ties

They do indeed Esther and so do old socks, they are nice and soft against the stem.

i use these, only have to buy the cheap ones now for this purpose as don't wear either anymore..excellent ties for those of us who's dexterity isn't what it should be ;D

i can't recall..i was just sat there with jaw drop and a red face whilst my friend thought it was hilarious as she laughed at most of my recycling in the garden dept

Well I have used nylon stockings for years and still have a carrier bag full donated by lady gardener friends . Also quite apart from gardening they came in very useful to protect your feet from blisters on long marches. You would be surprised to hear some of the things marines did.
