I'm a bit concerned about mine, they looked rather sad yesterday. I forgot to open the greenhouse door and they got a little hot. I gave them a spray of water and left the door open. All your cuttings loved the heat Tel.

I place newspaper on top of mine when the sun hits the greenhouse.

All your cuttings loved the heat Tel. Once your dahlias have rooted they love the heat. I do not think i have mentioned this on here before, about watering young rooted cuttings, they do not like saturated compost, because their roots are fine, and will easily rot off. Over the years when young plants have been stood outside in their pots and we have had wet weather for a few days, i have lost a few, due to the compost been to wet for days on end.

I think I will move all my cuttings to a cooler greenhouse today, it looks like it is going to be another hot one. I'm very good at not over-watering, it is remembering to water at all that I have problems with I've been down to check my cuttings and they have all perked up although I still cant see any roots. I root all my cuttings in 'peat pellets', it is so easy to tell when they have rooted, there is no root disturbance when they are potted up and I was given a few hundred for free ;D

Thats a useful tip. I remember reading it somewhere. I tend to "gan canny" with the watering for all rooted cuttings, until they develop a decent sized root system ....I've just been covering my cuttings as the sun is getting high now and its hot. I've already put green net shading on part of the greenhouse. That helps as well

How long do they take to root? I discarded the hollow ones. Is that right?

You are right to discard the hollow ones Cherry. Cuttings usually root within 2/3 weeks, maybe quicker if bottom heat is provided.

I am on course now. I cut the bottom leaves off which annoyed me and they do like being in the propagator with the lid. This comes off when it is sunny and newspaper covers them lightly. They are loving this treatment and look completely happy.

still haven't got room in the propagator to do any, I think they've grown too big for cuttings now

Its quite warm now so the propagator isn't absolutely essential Grindle....they should root quite quickly. Too tall?....trim them back to about 3". I took my last cuttings a few days ago....and potted up the tubers I wanted to keep.
