Hi First post so apologies if it goes in the wrong place. I have a few of my pot tubers that arnt yet shooting (i started thrm 6 week ago) but are still firm. I've seen reference to dipping them in hot water to shock them into growth but would like more detail please on the method. I'm assuming I take out of pots and dip the tuber in a bowl of hot water but how hot is hot (just off boiling?) Or do you have a more preferable method? Suggestions gratefully received Thanks Russ

Good morning and welcome to the forum russ. You will find a lot of information and members willing to help, but Tel is our first person to call in a crisis. My first new shoots were evident only two days ago in my unheated greenhouse. I was starting to worry too.

Hi Russ, have you got your tubers in a heated propagator. If you are losing patience there is a couple of shock treatments, one is the hot water treatment, not tried this one myself, but Ian is the man on this one. Also there is cutting the tuber into two, to shock it. Welcome to the forum too.

Hi all Thanks for the welcomes. Tel,yes they have been on my heated floor along with the other 60 or so pot tubers I have which I've been taking cuttings from for the past month or so. Some of the ones that arn't moving are duplicates of ones that are growing but others are more precious to me. Cheers Russ

Hi Russ sometimes tubers are blind and will not throw cutting whatever you do. You can try hot water take the tuber out of the pot and pour boiling water around the crown of the tuber (don't put the Tuber in it) you might also while you are at it cut the tubers through the middle in to two now cover with news paper and a piece af black plastic bag. The should show signs of life within a week to ten days if not. You know what to do with the rest of the bin bag. Hehe all the very best Russ
