We have an ugly gabion wall along out back with a high fence above it. It`s so poorly built that there are large empty areas between the stones. I`m looking for suggestions for non invasive suitable colourful plants to stuff in there. perhaps scented ones for around the seated area ? I was also thinking of climbers that are not bare at the base like the wisteria I have . Any ideas ?

I would suggest Aubretia, Carnations/Pinks/Dianthus. A good climber would be Lonicera sempervirens an evergreen/semi evergreen honeysuckle.

It`s quite a sunny wall Tell .I had forgotten about honeysuckle , thats a definite, . I have a climbing hydrange in a pot but I imagine it will be bare at the base eventually .I`ll try dianthus , though I think the aubrieta might be a bit straggle. i`m windering if there is anything yellow or blue you can think off ?

phlox subulata would help restrain the bank and has a mossy look when not in flower. Would you like some of mine?

I know you thought I had forgotten this ladybird, but I have been seriously busy and will now get round to lifting some of the phlox to put in for your wall. It stays at around 4 - 6 ins, but does spread anywhere there is a little soil to help it.
