Great pics Steve, the championship entries were all outstanding, the first was out of this world! Hope to reach that standard one day. Now, I think I need some new Dahlias haha! Raymond, how very inconsiderate, can't she re-arrange the wedding?

A few pics from Culcheth show. I entered most of the classes but entries were a bit down so hence the numerous firsts. Put MJ in both small and min ball classes as I planned and they looked respectable. (mins were double stopped as I was advised) Wins with Winholme D and George, scruffy dec Giant Mark Hardwick, med d Trengrove, med sc Wittermans . I also had a large/giant yellow sc which I hope someone can id (I was given an unknown tuber) which I grew 8 up thinking it was a small! Excellent weather resistant blooms pushing 10 inches despite too many laterals.
MJ small and min
Win and G
SC large/Giant

Sunday was the final show for me at Ramsbottom. Were some good Dahlias there, managed a 1st (MJ) a second and a 3rd . Plus most points in veg classes. A few good Chrysant growers were there and put on an amazing display. A Rose grower turned up from Hampshire, slept in his van and took some of the Rose classes. The usual cakes, preserves were well represented. Great little show, well worth going for some late competition. I'll be back there for sure.

Couldn't resist it Lou. The show venue at Ramsbottom cricket club is next door to a steam heritage line, 'The East Lancs Railway' who had steam locos running on sunday. Plenty of hissing, tooting and clouds of steam, fabulous!

Cheers Steve, it's a really nice venue and they do 3 shows a year. There are a couple of top notch Rose growers there in Tony Bracegirdle and Ken Ellis so the Hampshire bloke had competition. He seemed to enjoy travelling all over to show Roses, made a weekend out of it. I seem to run into Chris N every show I go to so yes he was there, got most points in flowers and did a pretty good Dahlia basket.

It's 'Wittemans Superba' Anthony. A medium SC. Not really a show Dahlia but has won a few cards for me. It's very striking and weather resistant and non fading for a red bloom. If there's a down side the blooms are difficult to match as they vary in form, depth and even the angle of the bloom. Colour is constant though.
