Hi there smokeater3. Could you expand your question a bit, such as what variety of plant you are talking about. I haven't heard the term "tube up" either, if you could explain?

Not heard of the variety either but it sounds great! People here do use Americanisms nowadays but not me...

It IS a type of Dahlia. Perhaps "tube up" refers to digging up/storing tubers ?

Welcome to the forum smokeater3. You had us wondering for a while there. The dahlia 'Hollyhill Orange Ice' looks very pretty. Please tell us about your experiences with this and other dahlias.

I grow about 60 Varieties, and was contemplating purchasing one of these. When I ask about tubering up, I am referring to how well it develops tubers by fall.

That amounts to a lot of dahlias and our dahlia experts will be along to discuss them with you. Do you have an allotment or is there enough space near your house?

I looked 'Hollyhill Orange Ice' up & it does look really pretty, it's an American grown dahlia though & Hollyhill dahlias don't export although they do list a company who does so probably not many of the dahlia growers on here will have tried it, Moonlight may have heard of it as she orders from the U.S. sometimes.

Has anyone grown this variety? If so, how did it tube up? Hiya smokeater3, I am not one of the experts that Cherry referred to but SueA is right I have ordered dahlias from the US before. Are you from the UK or somewhere further a field?
My Dad and I have ordered for dahlias with Clearview Dahlias, Clack's Dahlia Patch and Dahlias by Les and Viv.
The tubers from the US are normally smaller tubers - split from a larger one.
Tell us a bit more about yourself smokeater3 I cannot imagine 60 different varieties of dahlia.

Smokeeater, I grew this variety once, and it had average amount of good-keeping smallish tubers. Others have said the same thing. I chose to not grow it again because it can give you a random bicolor pattern, and I did not care for it... However, others seem to really like it. Here's a link to a discussion from the hybridizer on HH Orange Ice: www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=996856760371009&set=gm.10153783810009031&type=3&theaterIf you can't access it, I'll check in later and copy/paste some of the more interesting posts for you. Cheers! CiCi
