This is a picture I showed you last week on my diary page of my Kenora Sunset at Tottington show. To the right of the Kenora Sunset, in the next class is a vase the flowers I have just been asking you about. I called them Ruskin Myra but they could have been Zoe. They didn't win anything . Ian won this class with his Trelyn Kiwi

Had a fantastic Harrogate and despite all the bad weather around the country prior to the show, the benches were well supported. Steve Burns won the Championship with five cracking vases, so well done mate, well made up for you. I stewarded for the Society Championship, with Jon Wheatley, Steve Burns, and John Fraser as judges. Love listening to them, I learn so much from their comments and was made to feel included. I think this is the best way to learn about our favourite flower.
Steve's winning exhibit, including best vase in show for Barbarry Primrose hall at the front. A big thank you to the northern committee for staging such an excellent show, and to Ian Sutherland, as chairman of judges for organizing everybody so well, and the lilac pens!!!!
On the downside, after three lovely days in Harrogate, came back to find that torrential rain at home had brought my covers crashing down!!!! Still, the polythene held up, shame about the timber. One bulge had about 100 gallons in it, but was still intact, if not a little stretched.
Covers now off, and will start to repair over the winter when the plants are dug up.

Hi derekbrooks you have them labelled correctly I think although the zoe is an older bloom. Zoe is a bit more straight longer petal than myra I believe . There is not a lot of difference between myra and zoe in colour. Ian k is the best person to ask as he grows both and won wisley and.harrogate with both in the small semi cactus championship. When.I get photobucket working I will post a picture of my zoe. Myra should.have a lighter shading at the.ends of.The petals I think.

I was happy johndoe didn't have a lot to choose from . Couldn't match my zoe as.well as.I wanted and cut 15 of them. I also won best vase with my marys jomanda. Well pleased with that. Planning has started almost sorted except for min dec. Don't know what to grow in that section.

Miniature decs are a problem, as there is so many top class varieties to choose from. This year I had George for the second year, which I'm dropping next year. Barbary Vulcan, which has done well for me, Barbarry D'Amour, which marked up and produced a white petal on to many plants. Marston Karen, I liked a lot with good form, but struggled with getting up to size, probably keep some for stock, so will have tubers left over. Polvernton Kristobel, which on my ground came out almost a salmon pink . Even with the Epsom salts and iron...... I had 2 plants of Blyton Shiraz, which produced some cracking blooms, with great form and consistent colour. Hopefully both tuber up well, so I'm going to give it a go next year to replace Marston George, although I'll keep some for stock. So next year my miniature dec line up will be, Barbarry Vulcan(if I get tubers), Blyton Shiraz, Barbarry Primrose Hall, Barbarry Delegate and Marston Suzanne. I've managed to get another plot next to mine for next year so will increase the numbers, but decrease the varieties. Really had a good year growing giants, Sir Alf in particular, and had a long chat with Ray Weekes at Harrogate about all things giants, so may make room for a couple of varieties . I've given myself till the end of October to sort out varieties and numbers, but definitely less variety and more numbers is the only way forward.

I did my last show at the weekend, Driffield, East Yorkshire. 2 x 1sts, 2 x 2nds and the novice cup, and already prepping for next year.
All my Kiwi Gloria's were poor, they were blowing their centres before getting anywhere near to size. so all for the compost .
I am looking for a tuber of Kiwi Gloria, hillcrest candy and Ruskin Myra.
I am willing to pay for them and all postage costs, alternatively, I can trade any of the following
Polventon Kristobel Blyton Golden Girl Westerton Folly Kenora challenger Kenora Valentine Ruskin Harmony Grenador Pastelle Ruskin Dianne Mary's Jomanda Blyton softer gleam oakwood goldcrest hamari rose
please pm me
