Nice one JD, all mine a cut down ready for the lift in a few weeks. I will dig some up and leave some until towards Christmas then dig some more then probably dig some after Christmas hehe. Its all good fun. I had a trip out to Barry Davies yesterday to get next years world beaters hehe. If you are in need of anything just ask. Ian NC Hope you left some world beaters for me!!! You know I need all the help I can get . Don't forget what I said about help with trialling, I've now got a bit of spare space .
Hope all's well with you and the family.

I'm going to have quite a lot of spare tubers which I would be interested in swopping. I see there is a "Swops" thread in the general gardening section, but nobody has used it for a few months. Would I be best to publish my list on there, or should I put it on the Dahlias section? If the latter, am I best to start a new thread or would I get more attention if I put it in this 2016 dahlia season thread? In general I guess that my list of spares will probably be of more interest to specialist dahlia growers than to general gardeners........

I think it would be best to just put your list on this thread. That's what I'll do when I know what I'll have spare.

I cut my dahlias down half way then take top nets off as soon as I stop showing , then a few weeks later cut down again and take bottom net off , the only reason I cut down this way is to keep on top of the job I have been growing 700 the last few years and can't take weekends off for cutting down and lifting so this way works for me , a hour a day before work is all I have , I have not fed my dahlias since August , and I never feed the tubers all this feeding tubers with potash to ripon them is new to me , but it seems to work ok , don't forget dahlia buds winter is coming. Would you like a couple of plants next year?

Well done JD great job. Did you get the tubers out through the mypex? I was finding it a struggle so pulled the fabric up first so I could get a spade under the tubers. I've been lifting, washing, trimming, labelling, dipping (dilute jeyes) them and coring them out today. (with my dewalt) Nice bright and breezy day great for drying. Will be all done and dusted early this year.

Off to the greenhouse now to start cleaning and trimming. I just give mine a good rinse around the crown, and don't bother too much about the compost around the tuber. Seems to work for me .

I'm rather lazy with mine. I just trim them and leave in the pots till the turn of the year. It works well for me. The ones I lift will have similar treatment, I leave some soil on and cut off any damaged lobes (and dust )....placed in trays of compost and stuck on heated bench ( will only put heat on if it gets really, really cold....then come Jan/Feb will start to moisten compost......roll on Spring?

I'm with you on the washing part Lou. All I do with mine after lifting, is trim off the rats tails, and give them a quick swoosh around in a bucket of water, just to remove any soil off the crown. Then upside down on the bench to dry. I think leaving the soil in between the tuber helps protect it. As you say, It works for Me!!
Have a good winter everybody
