Started clearing this area for more dahlias hope to fit another 24 to 30 into here . Was just a dumping ground for the landlord . Soil underneath is very nice. Just a few more roots etc... To get out and I can then prepare the bed properly.

Hi Raymond looks like you can put a temporary cover over that area (Iam sure you could talk the landlord into that) you only need it for a period of about 6weeks, htell him you are going for the National. That area should produce good blooms as it hasn't been grown on for a while and it hasn't been buggered up with feed. A tip from me would be to plan wisely to make the best use of the area with good varieties for showing. Good luck

Hi ian I planned to put 18 Mary's jomanda there as in full sun down here the colour was very uneven. Changing my stock of Mary's my best tuber rotten and the other two very small did not make much tuber for me on the 6 I grew in the end. I did not give much feed to my other plot at your advice. Will be growing a lot in pots again as concreted then slabbed areas . Diane and senzoe grew well in pots full size. Wyns did not grow well in pots for me..I will trial wyns in the ground this year. My friend propagating it and it is alive. Kept the best Tuber. Lets see what happens need some plants first.

All the best with it Raymond, you've put a lot of hard work into that piece of ground - hope the landlord allows you to cover all those lovely blooms that will eventually arrive it'd at least give you peace of mind knowing they were sheltered :-))

OK so I have had a productive day (can't post pics at Mo due to desk top computer being behind all stuff from building works) I have not only got the above into the greenhouse, mark then decided to get the membrane and gravel put in that is part of the next phase too. Now I can think about what shelving I want long term I then sorted through some of my tubers which are mostly looking good only lost Vivian Russell and Marston lilac. I have decided to work towards pot tubers only to store next year some of Che's babies are huge!!!

Last year I started my dahlias all indoors however this year I am only able to start my garden friends and wyns favourite indoors due to building works however I will start rest during Easter holidays in the greenhouse. My question is - when I have bedded into compost in my mushroom trays do I water them or is there enough moisture in the compost? Answers on a postcard please
