I know some people don't like them but I was really excited this morning when I looked at the footage from our night camera & there was a fox vixen on it! She looks like maybe a mum but I'm not sure & it's the first time we've ever seen one although we know there must be some in the area. She was here for a few minutes on camera around 4am, worryingly there were no hedgehogs on film but I don't think it was anything to do with her as they usually come much earlier in the night, hope they're O.K. Here's a pic of her:- & a couple of brief videos:-

Amazing in a built-up area. Of course it came to you SueA. Wildlife always does.

Where I used to live in New Malden, Surrey we had a foxes earth underneath the shed at the bottom of the garden. used to see several cubs at times but never a problem not even with the cats.

I did look under our shed in the morning sweetpea to check in case they were hiding under there but it's quite low & no sign of anything. Perhaps she was just passing through as she wasn't on camera last night & the 2 hedgehogs are back so maybe they were hiding from her. There are a few people in the area who keep chickens as we hear a cockerel sometimes so maybe she was attracted by them. We are on a busy housing estate Cherry but our cul-de-sac does have a small field at the back & the moss is only a short walk away so we do get wildlife around & I suppose that with the roads etc. being quieter due to the 'lockdown' they are wandering further into towns. I'm just thrilled to know that she felt comfortable enough to visit, one of our neighbours from another cul-de-sac around the corner has said in the past that her husband saw a large fox wander through their garden in broad daylight a year or so ago but this is the first I've seen.

that's exciting SueA I don't think it would have put the hedgehogs off, I've seen them eating together on another site

Only the hedgehog on camera last night so maybe the fox was just on her way to somewhere else, it's lucky I put the camera out that night & caught her on it as I don't put it out every night because the batteries wear out so quickly (can't use rechargeable with this particular camera). I've seen pics./film of hedgehogs & foxes eating together as well grindle & our hedgehogs don't mind the cats which visit, it just seemed odd that there was no sign of them that night - perhaps they've never met a fox before!

She was back again last night, so pleased it wasn't a one-off last week, pretty little vixen again :-

Not seen the fox for about a month but there was one visiting last night, not sure if the same one, it looks quite thin & seems to have quite a few ticks on it's sides so may have been struggling for some reason.

doesn't look like that one has been nursing, unless they've been weaned quite a while

That's what I was wondering grindle, it could be a different fox or maybe they were already nearly weaned the first time she came, odd that we haven't seen her for a month if it's the same one but anything could have happened in between times.

the other page I'm on, their dog fox has now started returning during the day to just sleep so it looks as though the weaning is done, so could be

It does look well doesn't it Cherry, I thought it looked like it had ticks or something on it's side in an earlier video but now I think it could have been raindrops or seeds off a plant stuck to it. It has left it's 'calling card' of fox poo plonked on top of a clump of daylily leaves a few times as well!
