Another run in the country today to collect an old Eltex heater. Just need to source a paraffin supply and work out what size wicks it uses. I'll give it a good clean up first just to tidy it up a bit. The leccy one which is in the g'house must be faulty as when I turn it on it causes a fuse to trip.

It could be just a loose wire in the plug sweetpea.

The plug is one of them that you can't undo and since then there has been another power cut so chances are it wasn't the heater after all. mystery! Meanwhile I've lit the paraffin heater to see how it does and as soon as the weather is better I will investigate the power cable which is partly buried where it enters the g'house. Watch this space.

I seem to have isolated the fault by a process of elimination. It seems the uv light on the pond filter could be the culprit. I switched it off and since then no trouble so fingers crossed.

Whats the consumption of parafin sweetpea ? I just threw out two old paraffin heaters, that I accidently left outside, as they were badly rusted. I found the paraffin consumption to be quite expensive .

I found the paraffin consumption to be quite expensive . It is expensive Bridie but I just keep some there for emergencies. At Homebase a 4 litre container cost £10.00 which is ridiculous but I just needed some in a hurry. Bang goes the thrifty Scotsman theory

wow that is expensive though I do love the smell of it in the greenhouse. I still have a container of paraffin in the shed. I must put it up on free cycle .
