I expect everybody knows by now but the Queen died this afternoon. We will all miss her as most of us have never known any other king or queen during our lifetimes!
Now the Prince of Wales has become Charles lll - Long Live the King!

R.I.P., I'm not a big royalist but the Queen did turn into a lovely little old lady with a sense of humour in her later years & served the country well.

There was a king on the throne when I was born balc2 but I don't remember him, he died when I was 2 yrs old. I feel for her family more than anything, it's a sad time when your mother/grandmother dies. I am not a royalist either SueA but I admire the way she was so dedicated to her work right to the end.

I`m proud to have been a member of Newport Schools Choir in the 60`s when we sang before the Queen at Newports` Civic Centre. She is very sadly missed.

I think I could be called a royalist and I do remember the day The King died. I was about 10 and did not know if I should cry or not. I think I got over it quickly and was more concerned with the chicken pox which I had at the time.

In spite of my opening post in this thread I'm not a royalist either. I've never been attracted to royalty but neither am I against it. I admired the Queen very much & couldn't imagine a day without her. She seemed like she would go on forever.
But then I felt the same about my mother who died at age 80! You always expect to see them in the same place doing the same things as they always did & it's a bit of a blow when you visit & don't see them as usual!
I remember the same with my father who died the year he would have been 65. I was living in Spain at the time & there was no way I could get home for his funeral. In fact I didn't return to the UK for another 18 years! I expected to see him sitting in his favourite armchair smoking & reading the newspaper so it was a bit of a shock not seeing him there, even 18 years after his death! I imagine many people experience something similar.

Thursday was such a sad day we always knew would happen one day, and yet at the same time we never thought would happen, because the Queen was such a constant figure throughout many of our lives.
In the words of Paddington Bear 'Thank you ma'am, for everything'.
