The show finished up with 3 dahlia exhibitors. The late comer won both dahlia medals. I had two seconds and one first with the poms, received a trophy for the poms. Second with the 3 different sized seedling. Second with the mixed vase of Small Decs all different sizes again, the top bloom Rossendale Peach was rubbish if i do say so myself. First with the pom Moorplace The pom Trophy I had two entries in the veg section First for french beans First for a Carmen cucumber. Plus NVS silver medal for best veg in show Does this qualify me to join the winners board. ;D Hopefully i should have a lot more blooms to choose from next weekend. Well done Tel, I think they all look lovely and i love the colour of Moorplace ;D

Well back from the alottment and its very doubtful that I will be showing ANYTHING THIS WEEKEND.Slight chance of a stand of joan walker, blyton softer gleam, marys, jomanda and maybe brenda t but I'm not holding my breath.Best chance is with some moor place and minley carol might have another go at the 3 vases of 5 poms ( Was second last year with 15 minley carol). Now reckon i'm 3 weeks later flowering than last year. But that should (crossing fingers) give me a better choice for harrogate and my own socitey show on the 17th.

It sounds like you will have plenty of blooms to choose from Harrogate week DC I should have a vase of Kenora Challenger a vase of Ruby just need to find something for a third vase on Fri for the Bradford Championship.

Good morning Tel, I remember you telling Sue how big dahlias should be for showing but I cannot remember could you tell me please, just for fun I'm entering another local Flower Show Saterday. Les Les are they show dahlias, will the judge use dahlia rings to check size? if not the main thing is to have all your blooms the same size and try to get the centre of the blooms the same size too, just like identical triplets if it is three blooms to a vase.

I wouldn't of thought they would use rings, it is 3 to a vase, mine are still in bud at the moment hopefully they'll be out by Saterday, thank you for all the tips.

I have not had a year like this since i started showing dahlias, there has been a population explosion for earwigs this year on my dahlia beds. I used to find the odd one hiding in the top of a dahlia plant, this season its 3 or 4 hiding in a plant. Even if i manage to keep them of the blooms they have marked the leaves when they were soft nearest the bud, so they can look unsightly when they are in a vase, though i have placed vaseline on the stems, Marston lilac especially, have still had a few blooms nibbled away.
