Called down to te allotment early this morning, torn covers where whipping the blooms in some areas, covers missing altogether in others. Bent stems or snapped, not one Kenora Challenger bloom left, total disaster down there. No Harrogate for me this year. Will pop down in the morning when i have more time and cut all the damaged blooms away, then see if there could be a vase or two for Wilsden on Sunday, not very hopefull though.

That is a great shame Tel, but you have a lot on with moving anyway, so perhaps this is meant.
I hope Wilsden turns out well.

Sorry to hear about the covers tel mine managed to survive but my poms which are grown outside took a battering. should have a few tubs for harrogate got plenty of marys jomanda, joan walker, ryecroft brenda t,blyton softer gleam and ruskin michelle (these are looking really well got some great size and depth on them).Hoping to get a vase of oakwood goldcrest too but might struggle for dikara superb, kiwi and chloe these could do with another week really.I've had some good ryecroft jans but only have 12 plants in and they have all seemed to be coming midweek so might struggle with that too.Gave the superbs a soaking tonight to see if it will get them out a bit more and I will cut the kiwis tomorrow afternoon to see if that will work for them.We have entered the society class but a couple of the lads have lost there covers so I dont know if we will make it in that class now. Will you still be going to harrogate fro a look tel.

I don't really know when the trial results are announced, i think they carry on judging until the end of Sept. I had a few that were well over size has a minature on the allotment, i am going to try a few next year has a Small Dec.

I normally attend Harrogate Show every year even when i have no entries, Brenda goes and looks at what interests her while i spend most of the time in the dahlia hall and we meet up later somewhere in the show ground, but with moving house later this month even if i were showing i would not have had the time to attend the show when it opens, just too much to do this year. So DC you will be carrying the flag for the forum in the dahlia hall this year for us all, i really have my fingers crossed that you have a successful show, just to get in the first 3 in any class is what i call a great result at Harrogate.

I'm really sorry to hear this Tel. I hope all the covers etc are fixable for next season. It may not look so bad when you get down there and tidy up. As Cherry said, it may be a blessing in disguise, life can get tricky when your priorities are being pulled in two directions. I will keep my fingers crossed for Wilsden.

Well broke up from work for a week last night so had a lie in this morning (so nice not to have to get up at 5) because there wont be much sleep between thursday and sunday.I have some holes to put in some new tubs this morning and then take every thing required will be taken up to a friends shed that is closer to my allotment.I will then tie canes to any blooms I that I think will be ok for harrogate and I will also be cutting some bloms today i.e kiwi gloria and maybe joan walker. The walkers beacause I am a little scared of tonights forecast of clear sky and light winds I would hate to think they damped off at this late stage.

Went down and cut away all the damaged blooms this morning, There were two decent Kenora Challengers and one that had bent over a bit, so i have placed a split cane on that one, will have to see if they will last until Sunday and if they do will the one with the cane on stand up when i take it off. ;D
All been well i should get a vase of kiwi's for Sunday and if i do not have 3 small decs of the same variety i may be able to get a mixed vase. Plus there is always my cabbage to fall back on. ;D
Will go down again now Sat evening and cut what ever there is to take, then Sunday morning cut the cabbage and pull a few beetroot see if i can get 3 matching, there is a big carmen cucumber in the greenhouse, may have to cut that tomorrow because it may start to yellow up if left too long.

I am glad you don't feel too depressed Tel. You do have to look forward and I know you like to support Wilsden Show. Is this the one with the band?
